How to protect yourself from phone scammers: simple rules

Phone scammers are increasingly inventing new ways to deceive people and gain access to their money. O!Bank reminds you: never disclose your bank card details, account information, or any other personal data over the phone.

What methods do scammers use?

Messages allegedly from relatives or acquaintances
• Most often, scammers hack WhatsApp or Telegram accounts beforehand and then ask for an urgent money transfer.

“Investments” and promises of easy income
• You may be offered to turn a small amount of money into a large one or promised passive income in exchange for simple money transfers.

Selling goods and services via social networks and classified ads websites
• Common examples include house or apartment rentals, sales of clothing, flowers, or other goods at very low prices. After payment is made, the seller disappears.

Pressure and intimidation
• Scammers call and report an allegedly urgent problem: a loan issued in your name, money being withdrawn, or property being sold. They often pose as representatives of government authorities or banks and ask you to install remote access applications such as AnyDesk.

How can you protect yourself?

• Do not make decisions immediately – first verify who is calling you, even if they claim to be from a bank, a government authority, or a relative.
• Call back your relatives or trusted contacts to confirm the information.
• When shopping online, check reviews and information from multiple sources. If all reviews are only positive and appeared on the same day, this is a reason to be cautious.

Important: O!Bank employees never request personal information over the phone.

If you have any doubts, call the bank at 9999 or contact law enforcement authorities to verify the information.
